I spent most of the day today training agents at one of our satellite offices on a new computer program
Mind you, I had already recorded 4 hours of online/live training for the agents
But they wanted me to be in their space, hold their hand, look them in the eye
And go over it ONE MORE TIME!
After the group meeting, I conducted some 1:1 training for a couple of agents
I was amazed by the questions they had because they were needing what I considered beginner help
I was baffled at their beginner level
It didn’t take me long to figure out they never had tried it before today. WHAT?!?!?!?!
I was thinking, “What have they been doing for the past few months?”
Obviously, NOTHING!
It was their manager that noticed something was wrong
The agents couldn’t work their business more than meeting clients and making phone calls
When I asked why they hadn’t tried before, they said…
“It’s too difficult”
“I am so overwhelmed”
“I don’t understand the connection between the programs”
Instead of them reaching out for help, they were stuck and inefficient
They were hiding the reality that they were living in
They were ashamed to ask for help
Interesting…
They had made conclusions before they even tried
What if it really had been easy to understand, not overwhelming, and the connections made sense?
By their thoughts– their assumptions– their beliefs, they had built a huge wall between the present and their future
Why???
I’ve said this before… Our brain is lazy! Our brain doesn’t like change
When I broke down the steps, the reality of learning, they were able to consume the new knowledge and create new skills

The feeling of overwhelm is probably hiding a deeper feeling… maybe something like fear, apprehension, and lack of self confidence
When you break down the new task, the new program, into bite sized pieces, it gets to be manageable
