This weekend was crunch time, again…
I had less than 48 hours to decide on a topic, write and produce a presentation
How long have I known about the deadline? Almost 4 months!
Why, oh why, do I wait to the last minute?
Last month, I decided that I wanted to retain a certification that I’d earned—for the second time
The only problem was, when I decided that, Yes, I was going to go through the re-certification process
I had less than 2 weeks to find an “extra” 60 hours in my life to gain 60 credit hours for re-certification
Was I crazy??
Nothing like procrastinating, again! Augh!
Why do we do this to ourselves?
I know I am not alone with the issue of procrastination
When we choose to wait, what do we gain?
Maybe, so we get some relief
Relief of not having to do the thing we are putting off
Are we escaping? Escaping responsibility?
The past couple of months I have diligently been following my calendar
Looking at what I wanted to complete for the week and placing those “to-do’s” on my calendar
What I haven’t been doing very well is working these bigger projects backwards
Working backwards by starting with the result I want
Then deciding what actions I need to take to get the results—in the time allowed
I had kept my eye on the deadline, but failed to work the project backwards
I was distracted by a variety of other “fires” in my life, instead of doing the work I teach to my clients
Yes, I am human; I can fall back into old habits just like anyone else
However, being aware of my thoughts, feelings and ultimate actions, I can catch myself mid-stream
This takes practice; concentrated, consistent practice
We are all a work in progress
Some have progressed farther than others
I am always striving to be the best version of myself every day
Will I procrastinate again? Maybe
I am committed to doing the work of honoring my calendar, creating a plan for my projects, and working them backwards from the result I desire
My new thought I choose to believe: I WILL PROCRASTINATE NO MORE!
